I realize that this is a lot of questions and I’m very sorry, but any questions that you could answer would be extremely helpful. Thank you so much
1)What does Scout first tell Atticus when he asks what is wrong?
She tells him about her day and the mistakes her teacher made in the hopes that Atticus won’t make her go back to school.
2)What does Scout do with the pennies she finds in the knothole?
Actually, Scout finds gum in the knothole, and Jem tells her not to chew it because anything found in the Radley yard might be poisonous - trick question?? Hmm…
3)When Atticus asks what they are doing, what is Jem’s answer?
Playing the Radley game.
4)Why did Scout lie about fighting with Francis?
Because Atticus forbade her from fighting and he would no longer read with her if she fought.
5)How does Scout feel about Uncle Jack after overhearing his conversation with Atticus?
She is mad at him and confused.
6)How old is Jem when Calpurnia starts calling him “Mister Jem”?
12
7)What is Lula’s reaction to Cal bringing the kids to church with her? And who is Lula?
Lula is the woman at the church who gives Cal a hard time for bringing the Finch kids to church with her.
8)Why can’t Tom Robinson’s wife find work?
Because of Tom’s situation with the accusations from a white woman. Remember, the businesses were owned by white people.
9)What do Jem and Scout learn about Calpurnia in the visit to her church?
Cal lives two lives - the one she lives with the Finches and the one she lives in the black community.
10)Who does Reverend Sykes say he hopes will hire Helen Robinson?
Link Dees.

I have a few questions.
1. What is one word to describe Maycomb?
That’s more of an opinion question, really, but if you could sum up what has been happening in the book, what would it be? Ignorance? Racism? Bigotry? Hatred? Misunderstanding?
2. What does Atticus say about understanding other people’s situations?
You have to walk around in their shoes in order to understand what they are going through.
3. What is the dog’s name?
Tim Johnson
Thanks. ![]()

I just have a quick question about the vocab blog. Do you want us to post our definitions or just look them up?
You don’t have to post them, just know what they mean for the test. I chose words from the test that I thought people might ask about. That way, everyone is on the same playing field tomorrow…

ok so i know i wasn’t in class when you went over the essay part of this but i am kinda lost on whats going on with that i know i have to write essay for each question but is there anything other than that that i have to include?
Nope - just write it as if it is a letter to Horton Foote - follow the directions completely, and remember, it’s a letter, not 5 short answers. Also remember that it’s worth 25 points, and that answering each part earns you 5 points. The most important thing is, BE COMPLETE.

i know this is late but…
How does Scout feel about Jem growing older and his sudden “wisdom”?
She is annoyed and frustrated that instead of being her playmate, he is trying to be her superior. She does not think he is any smarter or wiser than he was before, and finds him almost intolerable. Remember, Atticus tells her that she should obey Jem if he can make her.

What does Miss Maudie grow that she is famous for?
Azaleas
13) How does Miss Caroline punish Scout at the end of her first day?
Hits her with a ruler on the hand
14) Why does Miss Caroline offer Walter Cunningham 25 cents? I thought that Scout offered him 25 cents is this a trick question?
Walter didn’t have a lunch, so Miss Caroline offered him the money and he refused. Scout tried to explain that Cunninghams don’t take charity, and Miss Caroline got mad at her. So Scout fought with Walter in the school yard because she blamed him for Miss Caroline getting mad.
31.How do the Cunninghams pay Atticus for his services?
With goods from their farm.
32. Who broke his arm? Who is (his)?
Jem broke his arm in the scuffle with Bob Ewell at the end of the novel.
37. What is Miss Caroline’s reaction to Burris Ewell’s callous comments?
She cries.
38. What does Scout first tell Atticus when he asks what is wrong?
She tells how mean Miss Caroline was in the hopes that he would not make her go to school anymore.
39. What is Atticus’s advice to Scout about Miss Caroline?
Try to understand from her point of view, being new and everything: walk around in her shoes and see how she feels. Then they make the compromise about reading at night if Scout will go to school.

For the essay how do you want us to write it to the screenplay writer for the movie and then talk about how the movie was inconsistent with the book? Thank you.
