Exam Tips from the Author Herself

Wondering about the exam? Well, here is a good place to see what “the Author Herself” (that would be me…) thinks might show up and some skills to brush up on as you look at the material:

1) Can you edit a paper? Do you remember what to look for? Do you remember those days of editing in class, and what you were expected to do in the editing process?

2) What is alliteration? What is hyperbole? What is a simile? What is a metaphor? What is a theme and can you identify it in literature? What is free verse? What is rhyme? What is rhythm?

3) Can you relate the theme of the American Dream to the different pieces of literature that we read throughout the course of the semester?

Next set of “tips” - GOOD LUCK!

4) What have we been saying about history repeating itself all year?

5) What is important about being able to make connections between different pieces of literature and different themes in literature?

6) Are you familiar with the different characters and how they eminate the themes of the various pieces of literature we have studied?

What more is there to say? Oh, so much more! :)

7) There is something good about being able to apply differently literary terms to pieces of literature studied.  What terms? Hm…parts of a story, as well as the above “stuff” from #2…

8) What themes can be applied across all (or most of) the literature we have studied?

9) Do you know the different parts of an essay and can you identify them? Can you pick out sentences that would be best for a certain situation? Can you identify words in context? HINT: We’ve been doing that through vocabulary throughout the semester…
